The Guatemalan Community and The Division - July 2009

 

On Tuesday, July 21, 2009, the Guatemalan Under Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Miguel Angel Ibarra, visited Rhode Island State Police Headquarters to meet with the Superintendent, Colonel Brendan P. Doherty, with the goal of opening up a dialogue between the Guatemalan community and the Division.

Attending the meeting with Ambassador Ibarra and Colonel Doherty were the following:

•  Lieutenant Colonel Raymond S. White, Rhode Island State Police

•  Carlos Escobedo, Consul General of Guatemala to New England

•  Carlos Carias, III Secretary – Consulate of Guatemala

•  Juan Garcia - Guatemalan – American Alliance and Saint Teresa's Church

•  David A. Quiroa, Guatemalan Community Leader and Interpreter

Both Ambassador Ibarra and Colonel Doherty spoke at length, through the assistance of Mr. Quiroa who provided translation, about the importance of maintaining an open dialogue between the Rhode Island State Police and the Guatemalan community. Both also committed to ensuring their respective organizations would strive to do so.
