The Professional Standards Unit
The Professional Standards Unit is responsible for investigating and/or managing inquiries into all complaints and allegations made against sworn and civilian members of the Division of State Police. The Unit strives to ensure that the integrity of the Division remains intact. Each investigation is conducted objectively, thoroughly, and without bias. Citizens are encouraged to contact the Office of Professional Standards if they wish to express their satisfaction or disappointment concerning their interaction with a sworn or civilian member.
Procedure for Filing Complaint or Compliment
You may file your complaints/praise by telephone at (401) 444-1075, in writing via mail to the above address, or via facsimile to (401) 444-1105. You may file a complaint in writing by completing the attached Citizen Complaint Form (click on same). Your written complaint or compliment should include as much of the following information as possible: Your name, address, telephone number(s); the subject of your complaint/praise with his/her name, rank, badge number (if known); the location, date, and time of the alleged incident; the nature of your complaint/praise with all pertinent information; along with the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of any witnesses to your incident.
Description of Investigative Process
Thorough and objective investigations shall always follow complaints that are made against State Police employees. Depending on the nature of the allegations, an investigation would generally include interviews of and/or memorialized accounts by complainants, witnesses, and our employees, along with collection and analysis of relevant documentary, physical, and other forms of evidence. All investigations shall be conducted in accordance with Division policy, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the provisions of the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights under State law.
Conclusion of Investigations
A comprehensive investigation will generally end with one of three determined classifications: founded (proven,) unfounded (disproven,) or unsubstantiated (insufficient evidence to prove or disprove.) Complainants will be notified in writing at the conclusion of any internal investigation. By law, we are generally restricted from commenting on matters concerning confidential inquiries into personnel matters, however, appropriate corrective action and/or discipline is applied when allegations are substantiated. In an effort to improve the professionalism of the Division, counseling and/or remedial training may be implemented, regardless of an unsubstantiated finding.

La Unidad de Estándares Profesionales
La Unidad de Estándares Profesionales es de investigar y/o manejar investigaciones en todas las quejas y alegaciones hechas contra los miembros jurados y civiles de la división del policía estatal. La Unidad trata de asegurarse de que la integridad de la división se mantenga intacta. Todas investigaciones son conducidas objectivas, completas y sin ninquna predisposción. Exortamos a los cuidadanos a que se comuniquen con la unidad de estándares profesionales si desean expresar su satisfacción o decepción relacionada con su intercambio con un miembro jurado o civil.
Procedimiento para archivar queja o el aclamación
Usted puede archivar sus quejas/aclamaciones por el teléfono a (401) 444-1004, en escrito o por correo a la dirección que esta arriba, tambien por fax (401) 444-1105. Nuestra agencia no utliiza una applicaión de querellas de ciudadanos. Si desean mandarnos una querella/acalacion por escrito, por favor incluya lo siguiente: Su nombre, dirección, número de teléfono, la persona sobre su querella/aclamacion con su nombre, rango, numero de identidad (si lo sabe); el lugar, la fecha y hora del incidente alegado; la naturaleza de su querella/aclamacion con toda la información pertinente; tambien incluya los nombres, las direcciones, y los números de teléfono de cualquieres testigos a su incidente.
Descripción del proceso investigador
Todas las investigaciones hechas en contra de un miembro de la policía estatal serán hechas de una manera completa y objectiva. Dependiendo de la naturaleza de las alegaciones, un investigación generalmente incluirá entrevistas y/o relatos conmemorados por los demandantes, testigos, y nuestros empleados, tambien con la colección y análisis de documentaciones relevantes, y fisicas y otras formas de evidencia. Todas las investigaciones deverán ser conducidas de acuerdo a la polica de la división, y aquellos acuerdos colectivos y tambien los provisiones del Los Mandatos de Los Derechos de Policía bajo la ley del estado.
Conclusión de investigaciones
Una investigación completa generalmente terminará con una de las tres clasificaciónes determinadas: probado, no probado, o no substanciado (insuficiente evidencia para probar or desprobar). Los Demandantes serán notificados por escrito a la conclusión de cualquier investigación interna. Por ley, estamos generalmente restringidos de comentar sobre situaciones relacionadas a investigaciones confidenciales en materias de personal, sin embargo, se aplica la acción correctiva y/o la disciplina apropiadas cuando se verifican las alegaciones. En un esfuerzo de mejorar el profesionalismo de la división, el asesoramiento y/o la formaci ón remediadora pueden ser puestas en practica, sin tener en cuenta un descubrimiento no demonstrado.
